Our Grasshopper Group

Here at Cuddle Bugs Kindergarten & Pre-Prep in Bundaberg, our kindergarten program, called the Grasshopper group, is designed for children aged 3 to 4.5 years and delivers a dynamic and nurturing environment tailored to young learners. Within this program, our Grasshopper group offers specialised attention to children who are in the early stages of their educational journey. Some children in this group are approaching pre-prep age and will be starting formal schooling in the near future.

Kindergarten Program Overview

Our Grasshopper group is guided by one of our early childhood teachers and alongside at least one assistant educator, similar to the Bumble Bee group. This arrangement ensures that each child receives high-quality education and individual support. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to enhance children’s knowledge and learning experiences, focusing on crucial areas such as communication, self-help and problem-solving skills.

Early Skill Development

In the Grasshopper group, children are encouraged to explore their independence and are introduced to new concepts that challenge their thinking. We aim to develop strong communication skills by fostering effective expression and listening. Self-help skills are promoted to improve autonomy, and problem-solving activities are included in daily routines to stimulate cognitive growth.

This approach prepares children for future academic challenges and fosters a love for learning. By engaging in diverse activities, children build confidence and readiness for the next steps in their early education.

Kindergarten Transition Support

For those children who will be transitioning to formal schooling the following year, we implement a ‘transition to schools’ program. This initiative aims to help children become school-ready by familiarising them with school routines and expectations.

 

At the end of the year, children moving to prep receive a transition statement, which provides a detailed summary of their development and achievements. This document can be shared with their future prep teacher to facilitate a smooth transition.

 

For children not yet transitioning to formal schooling, we develop a developmental checklist at the end of the year. This checklist outlines each child’s achievements and progress, providing valuable insights into their developmental milestones.
